Family Literacy

Along with Tyler Junior College and Tyler ISD, Literacy Council of Tyler is a partner in the Family Learning Center of Tyler. The Family Learning Center provides quality childcare and adult educational services to low-income, Limited English Proficient (LEP) families at no cost and childcare for children from other Tyler families who pay for childcare services.

Eligible adults will receive instruction in parenting, job-related soft-skills, and will participate in 1 hour of intergenerational reading activities each week. The center also serves as an opportunity for college students majoring in Early Childhood Education to observe and participate in a model childcare facility.

Literacy Council of Tyler also hosts quarterly Family Learning Events where all of our ESL students are encouraged to come and participate in learning activities with their young children. These events are extremely well attended and a lot of fun!
